May 12, 2008· I had planned on getting a 9x20 Grizzly lathe (the g4000) and the Grizzly version of the X3 import mill (g0463). I ran into a really good deal on a solid old 10x24 Atlas lathe so I picked up that instead of the 9x20. I did get the X3 mill and I'm really happy with it. I'd given a lot of thought to the combo machines.

I'm probably looking at at least a 400-500 mile drive to even look at something. Because of this, I'm looking at a new imported lathe. I've read a number of online reviews for small lathes, and the Grizzly G0516 (10x21) and G4002 (12x24) seem to be liked much better than the other small machines.

I have one of the smaller Grizzly combo mill/lathes. It was my first lathe and milling machine. I like it for my level of expertise. The price was right and it has been a good experience. It doesn't take much experience to see its limitations or to see how an experienced machinist could make really cool stuff.

Dec 05, 2017· Also, I'd add that Shop Fox and Grizzly are branding the same host lathe that is used for this machine. I also noted Grizzly showing out of stock on both their facilities for this combo machine. They must be selling well although you'd be hard pressed to find a true review of the machine anywhere.
